- 1821  Whenever the emigrant has obtained from the government a location ticket, which is a sort of certificate that empowers him to take possession of the portion of land he has selected, he ought to commence operations immediately.
- 1927  The settler must clear five acres upon each hundred granted to him, open a road in front of his lot, and build a loghouse of certain dimensions. These settling duties, if performed within eighteen months after the location ticket has been issued entitle the emigrant to a deed from the Government which makes the lot his forever.
- 1963  The first inspection of the lands of the Ottawa for purposes of settlement was made in 1783, and the first location tickets were issued in 1788.
